Artist Statement: I photographed this desk while visiting Abraham Lincoln’s home in Springfield, Illinois. He and his family lived there just before moving to the White House. The house and neighborhood are now a National Historic Site, open to the public. The house is furnished with furniture from the period. This is Abraham Lincoln’s actual desk. Such eloquent writing coming from a tall man hunched over a tiny desk - it’s hard to imagine.
