Milk carton was found by the Boldt Construction crew while renovating the science center at Ripon College. The carton was embedded in the ceiling of the original part of the building, which dates to 1960-1961. The crew was amused that their predecessors had hidden the carton, wanting to save it for posterity.
In a 1962 Ripon Commonwealth Press advertisement, Oaks Farm Dairy announced the switch to new “plastic” cartons and “no more wax – no more staples.” The carton is wax coated with a staple at the top. It was produced only a year or two before the switch. The first paper cartons were dipped in wax and then stapled at the top.Acquisition
