Description

Leather pouch, 8 1/4" l x 3 1/4" h x 2" w. Has 1 small pocket and larger back section with wooden bar with holes for 20 cartridges (empty). "VET" has been hand carved on front flap, leather, including 2 belt loops and flap which secures lid over button. In soiled and worn condition. Has 2 buckles which may have attached to body belt or sling. Use of term "VET" is a privilege of service men who had met certain length of service. Inside flap has printed "W. Kinsey and Co., Newark, N.J." as maker of pouch. Found with other Civil War artifacts of Walter O. Hargrave of Ripon who was a sergeant major with Co. M, 1st Regiment Wisconsin Volunteer Cavalry in the Civil War.
