4 ¼" x 3 5/8" x 2 ½' carton of natural cardboard with red printing which says "This box contains 500 Fifth Liberty Loan Buttons etc." It is empty but kept as a sample of the promotion items available and used in Ripon in WWI. It is worn from use and soiled but intact. The donor family member Edgar Zobel was chairman of the Ripon Council of Defense and involved in the Liberty Loan Campaigns. The Victory Liberty Loan was the fifth and final special war bond series issued by the United States government in April 1919, following the end of World War I. While the first four "Liberty Loan" drives financed the war itself, the Victory Liberty Loan was designed to repay the massive costs of the war, fund the safe return of American troops, and cover debts incurred during the conflict.Collection
