Cross stitch sampler in frame and under glass, 8 3/4" by 12 3/4" on tan cloth. In addition to alphabets, numbers and 3 trees, it says "Adelia C. Atwell 12 years - 1846." Stained, discolored, and threads faded. In Pedrick "Genealogy", under Walter Atwell: He was born in 1802 and moved to Ripon in 1854, and was married to Clementine and died in 1861. It is noted that in the City Directory, 1859, it shows Walter Atwell as residing on Mill St., north of Jackson. At the same address was Adelia C. Atwell, a school teacher. She probably taught in the first school in Ripon (now referred to as the birthplace of the Republican Party) which was then located on land now immediately E. and S. of the intersection of Thorne and E. Fond du Lac Streets.
Adelia Atwell was the daughter of Walter Atwell. She was born in 1834.
