Black and white 8x10 glossy photograph of Speed Queen employess operating government-provided Greenlee machines to manufacture 20mm shell casings.

Context

Speed Queen suspended manufacturing washing machines in May 1942 and retooled to manufacture 20mm shell casings for the war effort. Back says: Made shells on these machines. Donor Jill Dudzinski's grandfather, Harold Grahn, worked for Speed Queen for many years in the tool room. His wife, Norma Stollfuss Grahn, also worked for Speed Queen. Speed Queen received and "E" Award from the government in recognition of their production.
