Artist Statement: Karin is a local Ripon artist, working in oil, soft pastel, and watercolor. Her art is most often inspired by the beauty and variety of the natural world, with a particular emphasis on texture and the play of light. She encourages her viewer to step back, take a quiet moment, and appreciate the wonder that surrounds us. Her style is constantly evolving. Taking her cue from the singularity of each crooked tree branch, jagged leaf, or tumbled rock, she feels that each piece of art offers a unique opportunity for exploration and expression.
“The Rest of the Story" is the artist's attempt to enhance the viewer' s experience with a more decorative image than the original sign. "I was struck by the sheer utilitarian nature of the vintage sign and thought it would be fun to add an ornamental touch. As a woman working in the construction field, my aim was to appeal to a softer, more feminine audience." The title reflects both the introduction of these nonfunctional elements, as well as the recognition that lumber inherently derives from trees. The style of the piece was inspired by the work of Czech artist Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939). lt is watercolor and ink.
Karin lives in Ripon, with her husband, Owen, and two cats, Fester and Penny Marie.Context
