Autograph is dated 8/22/42 and reads: To Dr. Edgar Barnes, My lifelong ?? and counselor. FLReichmuth, Vice Admiral. The Reichmuth family moved from to Ripon when Ferdinand was a year old. Father Edward moved back to Ripon to help in the family confectionary business. Ferdinand graduated from Ripon High School in 1901. After 2 years of college, Dr. Barnes encouraged him to go into military service. Dr. Barnes was a well-respected citizen in Ripon.
