Description

A four-color silkscreen underglaze print on a white tile blank depicting a woman standing at a spinning wheel in the act of spinning thread. A glass demijohn and and copper kettle sit to the left of the spinning wheel. A plant grows from the copper kettle. The illustration supports a maxim from Poor Richard’s Almanac, “Grace thy house, let it not grace thee”. This tile appears in the brochure “Robert Darr Wert/Country Prints Tiles”, c.1960; see images. This is one of a series of at least fourteen tiles featuring maxims from Poor Richard’s Almanac.

Screen printing of underglaze colors, clear glaze, firing and finishing by Ceramo Studio, NYC. This example is printed on the thicker tile body used by Country Prints/Ceramo Studio prior to 1962.
