Name/Title
Wallhanging, Plowshares: Happiness Grows (TK)Description
A Plowshares wallhanging developed by a freelance artist and produced by Country Prints after Wert’s death in January 1966. Though designed to harmonize with Wert’s catalog of work, the initials “BE” mark this as the work of an unidentified artist.
The composition features a paraphrasing of a quote from English dramatist Douglas William Jerrold (1803-1857), “Happiness grows at our own firesides, and is not to be picked in strangers’ gardens.”
Plowshares is Country Prints’ line of narrow wall hangings, typically 8” x 24”, the majority of which are Christian in theme.
Top edge is hemmed to accept a dowel rod for hanging, remaining edges are serged and bound with an overlock stitch.Made/Created
