Print: Country Kitchen 820-1Description
A five-screen/six-color silkscreen print on off-white linen depicting a well outfitted early American country kitchen.
The composition is flanked by red brick chimneys. From each chimney hangs a swiveling crane holding kitchen utensils. At center, a painted tin coffee pot, a copper decanter, a glass bottle, and a pot with a chive plant sit on wood plank tables. The room is also outfitted with items from Wert’s personal collections that are often seen in his artwork: trivets, a butter churn, a wooden bowl, a bread peel, a glass demijohn, a spindleback chair and a wall-mounted spice box, amongst others.
This print is listed in the Spring 1958 and January 1960 Country Prints price lists, and appears in the c.1960 brochure “Country Prints in Frames Designed by Robert Darr Wert”. Prints were offered in a choice of antique birch or flat black frames.
A matching placemat set, table runner and apron were also produced; see images.Made/Created
