Two four-screen/five-color silkscreen prints on off-white linen depicting a Pennsylvania “Dutch” farmer and farmer’s wife in eighteenth century dress, each standing with tools of daily farm life. The subjects are presented against a yellow ochre field bordered in aqua.
Country Man print: a man stands to the left holding a scythe. To the right are some of the most important farm tools: a piggin (wooden bucket with one stave extended to form a handle), an ax, sickle, hay fork, and a wrought iron strap hinge.
Country Woman print: a woman stands to the right with her hand on a butter churn. To the left, a bread peel stands with its handle inserted in a glass demijohn. Above are four conventionalized herb plants, and a cast iron mold with fresh baked breads or muffins.
