Description

A three-color silkscreen underglaze print on a white tile blank depicting nine examples of early American wooden ware. Below center is the title “Early American Wooden Ware” bordering a carved eagle buttermold. The back of this example is without the typical Country Prints label hanger and cork pads, showing the maker’s imprint for Wheeling ceramics. The tile production date of November 1954 is noted with 54 and eleven dots symbolizing the month. The tile number appears on a c.1955 order form and packing slip.

Design, screen production, and mixing of colored underglazes performed at the Country Prints workshop, Gill, MA. Screen printing of underglaze colors, clear glaze, firing and finishing by Ceramo Studio, NYC. This design is printed on the thicker tile base used by Country Prints/Ceramo Studio prior to 1962.
