Description

A four-color silkscreen overglaze print on a white glazed tile blank depicting imagery from traditional crewel needlework. The composition is derived from elements within Country Prints’ matching towel/wallhanging which bears a design by Louise Chrimes from a crewel embroidery kit she developed for the Petersham Craft Center in Petersham New Hampshire c.1961. Country Prints produced the silkscreened patterns for Chrimes’ kits; see image below and “Towels/Wallhangings” Crewel 263 entry. The tile and matching towel/wallhanging were available singly or in matched gift sets; see images. This tile appears in the undated c.1962 and c.1966 brochures “Country Prints by Robert Darr Wert and Neighbors”; see images.
