Wallhanging, Plowshares: Rejoice U853Description
A Plowshares wallhanging with a three-color silkscreen print on natural linen depicting symbols of wealth and plenty surrounding the Bible verse Psalm 118:24, “This is the day which the Lord hath made, We will rejoice and be glad of it”.
Motifs of birds, pineapples, flowers, hearts and the sun are rendered in a loose style reminiscent of tole painting and Pennsylvania “Dutch” folk art.
Launched in 1964 for the 1965 calendar year, Plowshares is Country Prints’ line of narrow wallhangings, typically 8” x 24”, the majority of which are Christian in theme. Each came with a hand printed envelope for mailing or gift giving. Many came with a paper calendar attached at the base of the hanging.
Top edge is finished with a rod pocket to receive a dowel and shoelace for hanging. Edges are serged and bound with an overlock stitch.Made/Created
