Placemat: Yankee Doodles 112, c.1951, Red and MustardDescription
A placemat with a two-color silkscreen print on off white linen rendered in a sketchbook-like manner depicting signature items in Wert’s design catalog: woodenware; wrought iron cooking tools; roosters, hens and doves; calligraphic scrolls; trailing vines; hearts; and simple patterns reminiscent of calico prints. This design with a matching napkin was produced in four colorways.
This placemat set was produced in as many as eight colorways over the course of several years in the early 1950’s. It appears on a c.1951 Country Prints packing slip and a c.1952 Country Prints brochure.
Edges straight-stitched and fringed.
This example was given to the Uconn Historic Costume and Textile Museum by Robert Darr Wert in 1953.Made/Created
