Print: Stoneware 210, BlackDescription
A five-color silkscreen print on off-white linen depicting early American stoneware vessels in outline and silhouette with slipware motifs drawn both on and apart from the vessels. The modern collage composition brings early American antiques into mid-twentieth century relevance.
Originally produced as a kitchen towel/wallhanging, this print appears in the c.1954 brochure “Robert Darr Wert/Country Prints Kitchen Hangings”, and is described in a c.1955 Country Prints price list, “210 Stoneware — Contemporary from old pottery. Mustard, Red Earth, Blue, Clay and Black”. The price list also states, “Nice enough to “Hang” or Frame — in fact we now offer any of these framed on a flat black early frame as $10.00”. This example is one of those framed Kitchen Hangings.Made/Created
