Print, Christmas: 1952 Country Prints Christmas GreetingDescription
A Country Prints Christmas greeting for 1952 designed and produced specifically for Country Prints to mail to retail clients, suppliers, and other people of note to the company. A similar print was mailed to Wert family and friends with the family names added and the company name removed; see separate entry.
This is a four-color silkscreen print on natural linen depicting religious and secular Christmas scenes. The composition is divided into twelve panels (possibly symbolic of the twelve days of Christmas) with illustrations of the Holy Family, a shepherd and his flock watching the Christmas star, the three kings, musical instruments, glass Christmas ornaments, a candelabra, a church, and a family singing Joy To the World while ringing the bell in the adjacent church tower.
The panel above the Holy Family contains partial lyrics to the traditional Christmas carol, “O Come All Ye Faithful”:
“o come all ye
faithful joyful
and triumphant
o come ye o come
ye to bethlehem
come and behold
him born king”
The bottom panel between the three kings and the shepherd has partial lyrics from the traditional English Christmas carol, “The First Nowell”:
“the first nowell
the angel did say
was to certain
poor shepherds
in fields where
they lay - keep-
in their sheep”Made/Created
