Tile: Country Bedroom (TK) T-61Description
A five-color silkscreen underglaze print on a white tile blank depicting an early American bedroom.
The scene is set in a cold season, noted by the bed warmer lying across the trundle bed and a fire ready to be lit in the fireplace. A doll on the trundle indicates a child, probably a little girl, occupies this room with her parents who use the larger four-poster bed. The parents may have been married in 1781 based on the date seen on the blanket chest. Delft tiles with figural designs decorate the fireplace surround. The framed village scene above the mantle resembles some of Wert’s early 1950’s village prints.
This tile appears in the brochure “Robert Darr Wert/Country Prints Tiles”, c.1960; see images.Made/Created
