A placemat with a three-color silkscreen print on off-white linen depicting two apple trees, a woman picking apples in 18th century dress, an apple tree with birds and a birdhouse, and a field of apples and stars reminiscent of calico print fabrics. The napkin is a one-color print of a field of apples and stars to match the placemat.
This c.1959 design is an update of a c.1954 placemat set of the same name and number.
This placemat set is listed in the January 1960 country Prints price list in three colorways (pink, brown, or aqua), and appears in the c.1960 brochure “Mat Sets by Robert Darr Wert/Country Prints”; see images.
