Two five-screen/six-color silkscreen prints on off-white linen depicting early American women in scenes related to maxims from Poor Richard’s Almanac by Benjamin Franklin.
Sun print at left: a woman in a long dress walks a leashed dog while holding a freshly picked flower to her face. A topiary potted in a wooden bucket is surmounted by a red birdhouse. A tall sunflower stalk is stopped with a radiant sun face. Below is the maxim, “If your head is wax - don’t walk in the sun”.
Grace print at right: a woman works at a spinning wheel. Cooking tools and framed folk art hang overhead, and a potted plant thrives at her feet. Below, is the maxim, “Grace thy house let it not grace thee”.
This pair of prints are listed singly in the Spring 1958 Country Prints price list as Grace Thy House 612-16 and Don’t Walk in Sun 612-17 in flat black or natural frames.
