Napkin, Cocktail: Penn. Dutch 311Description
A set of eight cocktail napkins, two each of four designs. Each design is a three-color silkscreen print on natural linen. The compositions are influenced by both Pennsylvania “Dutch” and Scandinavian folk art. The set is unsigned, except for Wert’s “by hand” tag line.
Design 1: Roosters flank a calico heart, from which grows a stem with two branches bearing tulips.
Design 2: A Pennsylvania “Dutch” couple in 18th century dress stand to either side of three potted flowering plants.
Design 3: A young deer stands between two stylized potted plants bearing tulips, hearts, flowers and foliage.
Design 4: A two story house stands between two sculpted fruiting trees while birds fly above.
A rickrack style wavy line borders each composition.
This set appears on a c.1951 Country Prints packing slip, and is a redesign of an earlier set with the same name and number.Made/Created
