Name/Title
Towel, Wallhanging: Old Slater MillDescription
A four-color silkscreen print on natural linen depicting the Old Slater Mill museum in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Utilizing British technology, Slater Mill was the first mechanized textile mill in the United States, ushering in the Industrial Revolution in North America. The towel/wallhanging illustrations include a portrait of Samual Slater, mechanized carding and spinning machines, their hand-operated precursors, and the exterior of the mill. This is a custom commission for the museum shop at Old Slater Mill.
Now part of the Blackstone River Valley National Historic Park, Old Slater Mill is administered by the National Park Service; see web link.
This print is one of dozens of Wert/Country Prints designs sold c.1970 to Stevens Linen Associates of Dudley, Massachusetts. They continued to produce these designs with the Wert/Country Prints identifiers removed throughout the 1970’s-80’s.Made/Created
