Placemat: Yankee Doodles 112, c.1957, RedDescription
A three-color silkscreen print on natural linen depicting items from an early American home rendered in outline and silhouette.
The placemat design depicts twenty-two kitchen implements and a rooster weathervane. A trailing vine, a scrolled line, a scalloped swag, and scattered six-pointed stars complete the composition. The rooster weathervane bears Wert’s squared heart, and a similar heart is used in the signature.
The matching napkin design depicts five kitchen implements and a rooster weathervane in silhouette. The composition includes a trailing vine similar to that found on the placemat; see images.
This version of Yankee Doodles 112 was first produced c.1955 with a different napkin design. The example pictured has the later c.1957 napkin design.
Over time, this placemat set was produced in at least four colorways. A matching tile was also produced; see images.
Edges are straight stitched and fringed.Made/Created
