Breadboard: Baker 403Description
A five-color silkscreen print on a hardwood board with a clear finish, depicting a woman in a long dress standing on a brick floor, holding a baking peel, upon which is a round loaf of bread, as if removing it from an oven. Beyond the woman is a butter churn.
An attached iron handle acts as the hanger, and doubles as a serving handle when using the back of the board for cutting bread.
This design is one of a pair, the second being a depiction of a farmer harvesting wheat (see image below, and separate entry under “Breadboards”).
The ovoid shape of the board is reminiscent of the head of a baker’s peel, like the one in use in the illustration.
