Name/Title
Placemat: Yankee Doodles 112, c.1951, Brown and SpiceDescription
A two-color silkscreen print on off white linen rendered in a sketchbook-like manner depicting signature items in Wert’s design catalog: wooden ware; wrought iron cooking tools; roosters, hens and doves; calligraphic scrolls; trailing vines; hearts; and simple patterns reminiscent of calico textile prints. The matching napkin bears a color field covered with alternating circles, stars and crosses.
This placemat set was produced in as many as eight colorways over the course of several years in the early 1950’s. It appears on a c.1951 Country Prints packing slip and a c.1952 Country Prints brochure.
Edges are straight-stitched and fringed.Made/Created
