A “Scroll Hanging” with a four-color silkscreen print on a linen and jute fabric depicting characters from the night of Jesus’ birth, with a partial bible verse at the perimeter.
A central field grounds three angels, an eight-pointed Christmas star, the three kings bearing gifts, the holy family, each with halos containing three stars representing the holy trinity, and a sheep symbolizing the lamb of God.
At the perimeter is a paraphrasing of the Bible verse, Luke 2:13, clockwise from left:
“With the angel a multitude
of the heavenly
host praising God and saying
GLORIA
PEACE
GOOD WILL”
This scroll hanging is listed in the Spring 1958 Country Prints price list. A “Gift Wrap Mailng Tube” was included with each hanging. It is listed on the Christmas 1960 Country Prints price list with a “gay handprint envelope-mailer”. The hanging was produced in two colorways; see images.
