Print: Iron Horse 618-3Description
A four-color silkscreen print on off-white linen depicting a steam powered train engine and tender for the Virginia & Truckee Railroad (V&T RR). The composition is finished with a printed teal border.
The V&T RR still operates in Nevada as a tourist attraction, running steam and electric powered locomotives for seasonal and special interest tours. The vibrant red and black colors Wert used in this print are historic colors used by the V&T; see images and web link.
This print is listed in the January 1960 Country Prints price list, and appears in the c.1960 brochure “Country Prints in Frames Designed by Robert Darr Wert”. Prints were offered in a choice of antique birch or flat black frames.
Another version appears in the same brochure as one of a small group of “Wall Boards”, prints on burlap wrapped on boards, titled “707 Iron Horse”; see “Wall Boards” entries.Made/Created
