Description

A plastic laminated silkscreen print on cardboard depicting early American glass, wood, copper and ceramic vessels containing herb plants. The quote, “Herbs too she knew and well of each could speak”, is from the poem, “The Schoolmistress”, by English poet William Shenstone (1714-63); see web link. This version of Kitchen Garden was introduced to the Country Prints product line as linen placemats and laminated Plasticote Mats c.1957. It is listed in the Spring 1958 Country Prints price list in two colorways, pink or brown. It is listed in the January 1960 Country Prints price list in the same two colorways (pink/green, or brown/aqua). It also appears in the brochure “Mat Sets by Robert Darr Wert/Country Prints”, c.1960; see images.
