Name/Title
Placemat: Good Morning 101, BlueDescription
A placemat set of two, two-color silkscreen prints on heavyweight off-white linen.
Placemat: three calico patterned roosters look toward the center of the mat as if looking at the contents of a breakfast plate. “Good morning”, in large script, dominates the upper left corner.
Napkin: A smiling sun radiates from the upper right corner. The lower half is dominated by a wide band containing 60 squares, each with a sketch of a rooster or hen. Though several sketches repeat, an effort was made to make the birds look random and individual.
This placemat set appears on the c.1951 Country Prints packing slip, and is described in a c.1955 Country Prints price list, “Gay roosters in the rising sun — 64 of them on the napkin! Textured natural oatmeal linen — Red, Green or Blue”.
Edges are straight-stitched and fringed.Made/Created
