Branding, Packaging: Country Store Gift Box; Placemats, Tablecloths and Gift SetsDescription
A Country Prints “Country Store” gift box for placemats, tablecloths, and gift sets of matching towels, aprons and tiles. The package is a rigid cardboard box, offset printed in brown and black on brown cardboard.
Package art includes a radiant sun, a rooster weathervane, a pointing hand, a shock of wheat and farm tools. Imagery is composed on a field of vertical rows of hearts and stripes. Text on the box lid reads, “COUNTRY PRINTS by robert darr wert and neighbors, BY HAND ON PURE LINEN, from YESTERDAY for TODAY”.
The interior of the lid and the box bottom is printed with reproductions of 19th century advertising and editorial art from Godey’s Ladies Book (an influential women's service publication of the time), Harper’s, and The Farmer’s Almanac.
This box was one of a set of three matching packages used by Country Prints from c.1962-66. A matching product brochure was also produced.
The contents of this box is a sales sample of a placemat set strapped to a cardboard backing. This strapping was used to prevent the contents of the box from slipping while propped at an angle for display.Made/Created
