Placemat: Yankee Doodles 112, c.1951, Green and SageDescription
This is a Country Prints production sample retained as a print record.
A two-color silkscreen print on off white linen rendered in a sketchbook-like manner depicting signature items in Wert’s design catalog: wooden ware; wrought iron cooking tools; roosters, hens and doves; calligraphic scrolls; trailing vines; hearts; and simple patterns reminiscent of calico prints. Matching square napkins are also printed with a pattern reminiscent of calico prints; see images.
This placemat set was produced in as many as eight colorways over the course of several years in the early 1950’s. It appears on a c.1951 Country Prints packing slip and a c.1952 Country Prints brochure.
Edges are straight-stitched and fringed.Made/Created
