Print: Country Kitchen 1330-3Description
A six-color silkscreen print on off-white linen depicting a country kitchen with tools and implements necessary to a well equipped early American cook.
The composition is flanked by red brick chimneys. From each chimney hangs a swiveling crane holding kitchen tools and utensils. At center is a wood plank work table supporting a painted tin coffee pot, a copper jug, a slipware jug, and a cast iron pot containing a chive plant. The room is also outfitted with items often seen in Wert’s artwork: trivets, a butter churn, a wooden bowl, a bread peel, a glass demijohn, a spindleback chair and a wall-mounted spice box, amongst others. A silkscreened brown border finishes the composition.
At 13”x30”, this is one of Country Prints’ larger format offerings. A similar version of this print was also produced at 8”x20” (see separate entry), as were a matching placemat set , table runner, and apron; see images.
This print is listed in the January 1960 Country Prints price list in a choice of antique birch or flat black frames, and appears in the c.1960 brochure “Country Prints in Frames Designed by Robert Darr Wert”; see images.Made/Created
