Name/Title
Towel, Wallhanging: Old North Church 237Description
A four-color silkscreen print on bleached white linen depicting “The Old North Church of Paul Revere Fame” in Boston Massachusetts. The exterior of the church stands prominently, surround by interior elements such as the signal lanterns used by Revere, the church organ pipes, and the “wine glass” pulpit. This print is a custom commission for the souvenir shop at the Old North Church.
Sometime in the mid/late 1960’s this Wert design was removed from the Country Prints line and transferred to the contract work they were producing for the Bromley & Co. wholesale gift showroom of Boston (who also represented Country Prints).
Country Prints produced this print for a number of years and it was one of 61 designs sold to Stevens Linens Associates, Inc., of Dudley Massachusetts, in January 1969. Stevens continued to produce this print without the Wert/Country Prints identifiers for Bromley & Co. as well as the Old North Church souvenir shop. An example in Stevens’ packaging can be seen below.
This towel/wallhanging appears on a c.1965 promotional postcard for Bromley & Co. of Boston, Massachusetts, Country Prints’ New England wholesale representative to the gift trade.Made/Created
