Name/Title
Towel, Wallhanging: Wrought Iron 209, c.1954Description
A two-color silkscreen print on natural linen depicting items made of wrought and cast iron as well as tin: a weather vane, cooking utensils, trivets, hinges, door handles, a frying pan, and tin coffee and tea pots, amongst others.
This print appears in the c.1954 brochure “Robert Darr Wert/Country Prints Kitchen Hangings”; see images.
This print was marketed for use as a kitchen towel, wallhanging, or table runner, and is listed in a c.1955 Country Prints price list, “Brick Red and Black on natural.” The supplementary price list of the same year states, “the Wrought Iron runner has been very much revised” (which is this version).
The price list also states, “Pure Linen Kitchen Runners and Towels, Nice enough to “Hang” or Frame — in fact we now offer any of these framed in a flat early black frame at $10.00.”
A matching tile was also produced.Made/Created
