Name/Title
Tile: Poor Richard’s, Yesterday’s Bread (TK)Description
A four-color silkscreen overglaze print on a glazed white tile blank highlighting a maxim from Poor Richard’s Almanac, “GIVE ME YESTERDAYS BREAD, THIS DAYS MEAT AND LAST YEARS CIDER”. The maxim is reinforced by illustrations of breads, meat and a wooden cider cask with a spigot.
This tile design was first produced in the late 1950’s. However, this example is printed on the thinner tile body used by Country Prints/Ceramo Studio from 1962 onward. This example also has the Wert and Country Prints names removed and was likely produced by Ceramo in the 1970’s, following Wert’s death in January 1966.
This is one of a series of at least fourteen tiles featuring maxims from Poor Richard’s Almanac.Made/Created
