Gift Greeting 330: #2 Heavenly HostsDescription
A five-screen/six-color silkscreen print on off-white linen depicting seven angels singing and playing trumpets. The text is a portion of Luke 2:13 from the King James Bible, “And suddenly a multitude of the heavenly host”.
This is a good example of the playfulness Wert gave to many of his compositions. The angels are active, flying to and fro between the type, while singing and playing horns, both announcing and celebrating the birth of Jesus. There is also play in the type treatment, with all of the letters hand drawn and arranged asymmetrically.
This is a Gift Greeting, Country Prints’ line of unmounted prints available in folded cardstock note folders with envelopes for mailing or gift giving. This design was amongst the first eight Gift Greetings produced by Country Prints as described in a c.1955 price list, “330 Gift Greetings — for our first venture into the exciting greeting card field we have 8 of our very own colorful greetings in linen…”Made/Created
