Description

A three-color silkscreen underglaze print on a white tile blank inspired by an early American applique quilt. At center an American eagle with a patriotic chest shield holds a furling banner in its beak. Below, another banner is emblazoned with a partial phrase from the Declaration of Independence, “Life, Liberty, Pursuit of Happiness”. Below are thirteen red six-point stars representing the original thirteen states of the union. This tile appears in the brochure “Robert Darr Wert/Country Prints Tiles”, c.1960; see images.

Design, screen production, and mixing of colored underglazes performed at the Country Prints workshop, Gill, MA.
