Runner: Daily Bread 226, c.1953, 17x52, TurquoiseDescription
A strike-off with unfinished edges retained as a print record by Country Prints.
A four-color silkscreen print on natural linen depicting baked breads, wheat stalks, and the tools and implements for baking breads. At lower center, printed on the face of two wooden bins, is a line from the Lord’s Prayer: “Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread”, a recurrent theme in Wert’s work.
This runner was produced in two colorways: red and turquoise. In a smaller size, this table runner appears in the c.1953 brochure “Robert Darr Wert/Country Prints Kitchen Hangings”, listed in two sizes: 17” x 52”, and 17” x 72”; see images.
The square panel of breads at the center of the runner was also used to print the matching Muffin Cloths that were produced at this time.
Edges are straight stitched and fringed.
A matching tablecloth, muffin cloth, Gift Greeting and tile were also produced; see images.Made/Created
