Wallhanging, Plowshares: Kitchen Pocket, Heart-Treasure U802Description
A Plowshares Kitchen Pocket wallhanging with a four-color silkscreen print on natural linen depicting Wert’s interpretation of Pennsylvania “Dutch” folk art motifs intertwined with two bible verses, Matthew 6-21 and Psalms 28-7.
The pocket at the bottom held a stapled paper cookbook titled “Kitchen Notes”; see “Branding” entries for complete cookbook. There was also a paper calendar stapled to the front of the pocket.
Launched in 1964 for the 1965 calendar year, Plowshares is Country Prints’ line of narrow wallhangings, typically 8” x 24”, the majority of which are Christian in theme. Each came with a hand printed envelope for mailing or gift giving.
This Kicthen Pocket appears in the 1964 brochure “Kitchen Pockets, Plowshare Hangings”; see images.
The top edge is hammed to accept a dowel for hanging, remaining edges are serged and bound with an overlock stitch.
A matching calendar towel and Plowshares Christmas Greeting notecard were also produced; see images.Made/Created
