Name/Title

Placemat: For Margaret By Hand 1952 and 1954

Description

A two-color silkscreen print depicting rows of stylized flowers with the inscription, “For Margaret By Hand 1952”. A matching polka dot napkin on brown dyed linen completes the set. The design is dedicated to Wert’s wife Peg, whose given name was Margaret. This was likely an anniversary gift for the couple's eleventh wedding anniversary. First produced and dated in 1952, this placemat design was later used to demonstrate the silkscreen printing process for the readers of Woman’s Day magazine, February 1954, at which time the date was changed to that year; see images.
