Branding, Signage: Kitchen PocketsDescription
Hand painted pricing signage promoting Country Prints’ Kitchen Pockets wallhangings. The sign is painted on the former top rail of a chair and bears screw eyes for hanging in trade show booths.
The rail is painted with a red wash. The words “Kitchen Pockets” are painted in black and highlighted with yellow ochre drop shadows. “Per $9.60 Doz.” is painted in yellow ochre outlined in white. The left and right ears of the rail are accented with pink heart-shaped fruits and trailing green leaves. Most of the rail is lightly outlined with a yellow ochre stripe. Lightly hand drawn pencil guidelines are apparent throughout.
Introduced in 1964 for the 1965 calendar year, two Kitchen Pockets brochures state, “BEST NEW IDEA IN A LONG TIME!”, and, “A three in one idea and it’s completely new.” Kitchen Pockets wallhangings are silkscreen printed wallhangings with a pocket at the base. The pocket contained a self-published cookbook with eight recipes from the American Dairy Kitchen. A twelve page paper calendar was stapled to the face of the pocket. Kitchen Pockets were introduced along with Plowshares wallhangings.
This sign appears in two photos of a Country Prints trade show booth in the mid-1960’s.Made/Created
