Notecard, Country Print Notes: Country Cooking Notes 334, Kitchen Garden (TK)

Description

A notecard with a five-screen/seven-color silkscreen print on off-white linen affixed to a printed and folded textured notecard. The image depicts cut and potted herbs (dill, thyme, chive, sage) in cast iron pots, a wooden bowl and a glass bottle. Salad servers, a painted tin oil pitcher, a mezzaluna chopper and a copper tea kettle complete the composition. The textile is framed by a dark ochre border printed on the notecard. On the back of the notecard is Wert’s logo topped with a rooster on a skimming spoon and the type, “robert darr wert’s COUNTRY PRINTS NOTES hand printed on pure linen”. Two smaller spoons dangle from the handle of the skimming spoon. Within the bowls of the spoons are a “C” and and “R” for “copyright” and “registered trademark”. On reverse, a handwritten “50” in pencil may indicate the original retail pricing. This design is one of a set of six Country Cooking Notes from the Country Print Notes line. It is listed in the Spring 1958 Country Prints price list, and appeared in the c.1960 brochure “Mats Sets by Robert Darr Wert/Country Prints”. It was also produced as a framed print.
