Name/Title

Wallhanging, Scroll: Weathervane, Birds 228

Description

A Country Prints production sample retained as a print record. A four-color silkscreen print on natural linen depicting eight early American rooster weathervanes. The printed note at the lower margin states, “WEATHERVANES FROM THE INDEX OF AMERICAN DESIGN, NATIONAL GALLERY OF ART, #1” (#1 indicates this is one of two weathervanes wallhangings). Several of these weathervane forms are represented in other examples of Wert’s work. This scroll hanging is listed in the Spring 1958 Country Prints price list. A “Gift Wrap Mailng Tube” was included with each hanging. It also appears in a Country Prints article in The Springfield Sunday Republican, March 29, 1959.
