Name/Title
Towel, Wallhanging: House Blessing (TK)Description
A four-color silkscreen print on natural linen depicting a house under construction, a farmer constructing the chimney, a farmer’s wife mixing mortar, a young girl swinging on the framework and a young boy (dressed like the 1950-60’s) ready to climb an apple tree bearing fruit drawn in the manner of painted tinware. Above, two angels hold aloft a scroll with a portion of “The House Blessing”, which is continued at bottom:
“Bless this house
each brick and rafter
may it be filled
with peace and
laughter
with loving kindness
thoughtful care
abiding faith
and simple fare.”
The lower section of the composition is bordered with Wert’s typical trailing vines growing from a trunk at the lower center.
Wert explored this theme several times as framed prints, Gift Greetings, and tiles. A related calendar towel was also produced; see images.Made/Created
