Name/Title

Tile: Poor Richard’s, Harvest of Peace (TK) T-44

Description

A four-color silkscreen underglaze print on a white tile blank depicting a Pennsylvania “Dutch” farmer in a buckskin coat harvesting wheat. The moon and stars indicate the long hours of harvest time. The composition supports the maxim from Poor Richard’s Almanac, “A harvest of peace from a seed of contentment.” This tile appears in the brochure “Robert Darr Wert/Country Prints Tiles”, c.1960, and was produced into the 1960’s; see images. This is one of a series of at least fourteen tiles featuring maxims from Poor Richard’s Almanac.

This design was first produced in the late 1950’s and continued in production through the 1960’s as evidenced by its appearance on both the thicker tile body use until 1962, and the thinner tile body used from 1962 onward.
