Name/Title
Kitchen, Apron: Country Kitchen 419Description
An apron with a six-color silkscreen print on off-white linen depicting a country kitchen with tools and implements necessary to an early American cook.
The composition is flanked by red brick chimneys. From each chimney hangs a swiveling crane holding utensils. At the center is a wood plank work table supporting a painted tin coffee pot, a copper jug, a slipware jug, and a cast iron pot with a chive plant. The implied room is also outfitted with items often seen in Wert’s artwork: trivets, a butter churn, a wooden bowl, a bread peel, a glass demijohn, a spindleback chair and a wall-mounted spice box, amongst others.
This apron is listed in the Spring 1958 and January 1960 Country Prints price lists, and appears in the c.1960 brochure “Mat Sets by Robert Darr Wert/Country Prints”.
In a stroke of efficiency, this apron is printed from the same screens as the Country Kitchen 224 table runner.
A matching framed print, placemat set, and table runner were also available; see images.Made/Created
