Name/Title

Breadboard: Reaper 402

Description

A five-color silkscreen print on hardwood with a clear finish coat, Illustration depicts a Pennsylvania “Dutch” farmer wielding a scythe alongside a shock of wheat. Overhead, stars form the shape of a sickle, another harvest tool. An attached iron handle acts as a hanger as well as a handle when using the back of the board for cutting or serving. The shape of the board is reminiscent of the head of a shovel, a “man’s’ work” tool. This design is one of a pair, the second being a depiction of a woman baking bread, Baker 403 (see image below, and separate entry under “Breadboards”). This breadboard is listed on the Spring 1958 Country Prints price list. It is from Country Prints “Country Hearth” line of breadboards; see image of tag below.
