Name/Title
Towel, Wallhanging: Stoneware 210Description
A five-color silkscreen print on natural linen depicting fifteen early American stoneware vessels in profile and outline. Two roosters are rendered as ceramic objects, one jug has a crested bird in outline. A rooster and pheasant drawn in the manner of slipware decoration exist independent of the vessels.
Another example of this print has a Country Prints product tag that designates it as a runner; see images and web link.
This print was marketed for use as a kitchen towel, wallhanging, or table runner, and appears in the c.1954 brochure “Robert Darr Wert/Country Prints Kitchen Hangings”.
A c.1955 Country Prints price list describes it as, “Contemporary from old pottery. Mustard, Red Earth, Blue, Clay and Black on natural.”
The price list also states, “Pure Linen Kitchen Runners and Towels, Nice enough to “Hang” or Frame — in fact we now offer any of these framed in a flat early black frame at $10.00.” An example of this framed hanging is shown below.
A matching print, “Jugs 715-1”, and tile, “Jugs T-9” were also produced; see images.Made/Created
