Placemat: New Flock 123, c.1955, Mustard (another version)Description
A placemat set with two four-color silkscreen prints on off-white linen depicting a stylized rooster and flock of hens superimposed with Wert’s interpretation of calico fabric prints. The compositions are framed with a wavy rick-rack style border.
This mat set was produced in two colorways: turquoise, red, and blue-green on white linen, or red, mustard and black on natural linen (this example). The coloration of this example varies from one other example also noted as “mustard”.
This set appears in the c.1955 brochure “Country Prints Mat Sets and Table Squares by Robert Darr Wert”; see images. The set was later updated in 1957 and is listed on the Spring 1958 Country Prints price list as “Revised”.
A matching towel/wallhanging, table runner, and tile were also produced.
Edges are straight stitched and fringed.Made/Created
